Bonds are long-time supporters of boobs in all their shapes and sizes and after discussion with Aussie women they have formulated their very own language of boobs. We’ve long had emoticons and now, thanks to Bonds, we have Boobicons to celebrate the fact that no two sets are the same. Bonds cater for boobs from A – G and everything in between. One of the Bonds Boobicon Ambassadors is fashion blogger and full time mum Jess Dempsey. We were able to find out a little more about her, her career and the campaign in this interview.
Tell us about your background working in fashion?
My first job in fashion was with the Just Group working at Jay Jays at the Werribee Plaza, where I grew up, whilst I studied Visual Merchandising at RMIT. I went on to work for HUGO BOSS Australia as their Visual Merchandiser and from there jumped into styling. I styled some clients for the Logies and other award nights for around 3 years and during that time started my blog. The blog was a way for me to express my unique styling and share it with anyone who cared, it grew and grew and is now my full time job whilst being a mum of two.
Who are your favourite designers and have you met any of them? Why do you love them?
I love Karl Lagerfeld and everything he does for CHANEL, however, sadly I have never met him but who knows what might be in the near future-watch this space! As for Australian designers, I love Ginger and Smart, I love their sleek sophistication and their use of great colour. I was lucky enough to interview Alexandra, one half of Ginger and Smart and she was absolutely gorgeous. I am also a huge fan of By Johnny and his unique designs, he always thinks outside the square or fashion and I have met him also, backstage during fashion week.
How would you describe your style?
I think my style has evolved since the conception of my blog. I would have said feminine with an edge a few years ago but now I am older and a mum; I still have the edge but just more polished. I think I might stick to my motto of describing my style as ‘fashion confident’ meaning I am not afraid to try any trend.
What have been the main highlights of your career?
I have been lucky enough to have many highlights since starting my blog WHAT WOULD KARL DO. I went to Paris Fashion week for Wella, I am the fashion ambassador for Werribee Plaza, I was in the BONDS Boobicon campaign, been in two Infomercials for Boohoo.com and judged many Fashion on the Field at Spring Racing Carnival Days.
You are one of the ambassadors for Bonds Boobicon campaign, can you tell us about it?
I am loving being an ambassador for Bonds Boobicon! You can call me mama boobs because I am just that, mama boobs. I love that BONDS cater for all shapes and sizes from A-G and everything in between. I have been many sizes since being pregnant and having the babies and I can safely say Bonds has grown and shrunk with me. I love how fun this campaign is playing around with the Boobicons!
How did you come to be involved?
I was lucky enough to be approached by BONDS and I didn’t hesitate! I represent Mama Boobs because I am a mum and I have boobs, small, empty boobs but still boobs!
You’ve recently had your second child, how do you juggle motherhood and working in fashion?
Juggling motherhood and working in any industry is super-dooper hard! I might make it seem easy but it aint’! I have two kids and it is really tricky but I am very lucky that my second son Will, is a really easy and happy baby and also lucky because I have a great support network of family to help when I need. I get all my work done at night and every spare second in the day.
What tips should our readers be considering when creating their own personal style?
Be true to yourself. You are different from everyone else. Know your size, what colours and styles suit you and let your personality shine through, this might be through colour, prints or a signature piece, I like to wear hats!
What tips would you give to anyone starting a blog?
Network! Get out there to free fashion events, be seen, blog it, tag the brands and just meet people. Also, stay true to yourself and the reason why you started blogging, don’t compare to others as they are already taken!
What are your top fashion tips for mums bringing up baby?
A couple of tips are to have two go to outfits, one jeans and top and the other a nice gym outfit so you don’t need to think about what to wear as you really don’t have time until you bub is a bit bigger or you have a babysitter. Another tip is, if you can, get your brows and lashes done for those days when you just don’t have time to put on the make up!
What does being a woman mean to you?
It means that I am so lucky to carry and make another human and love them unconditionally. It means sharing life’s experiences with friends, the sisterhood and support other women on life’s journey. It is being proud of myself and accomplishing things all on my own.
Thanks for your time Jess, good luck with the campaign and let’s hope it has all women embracing the Boobs they’ve been blessed with.
