Jessica Faddoul is the woman behind the new label, FADDOUL. The up and coming Fall collection features blacks and muted colourings and is all about the warrior princess. We spoke to Jessica to find out more about the brand:
Where does the name FADDOUL come from?
FADDOUL is an eponymous label, I played the name game for a while in the early days but nothing else seemed to fit as well!
Tell us a little bit about the collection…
The fall 2012 collection is entitled ‘Warrior Princess’ and was inspired by ancient Greek and Roman female warriors. All of the garments are a little edgy but easy to wear and have been made with high quality printed silk, wool, cashmere and soft leather. The collection, features a beautiful selection of wool/cashmere coats, vests and jackets, silk blazers and pants, and dresses – cut out, oversized, printed and sequinned.
What kind of woman would wear your brand?
The FADDOUL woman is cool, confident and strong.
Where do you get your inspiration?
My main inspiration for the fall 12 collection was ancient female warriors and their weapons. I was drawn to the idea of powerful trail blazing women who make their own rules.
Who is the designer behind FADDOUL…is the label a reflection of you?
The label is definitely a reflection of me, I want to create a strong connection between my work and who I am. I design things that I want to see hanging in my own wardrobe. I think one of the label’s major strengths is it’s overall accessibility.
How do you feel about the impending launch of your Fall collection??
I’m really excited about it, so far there has been a really great response.
How do you choose your fabrics?
Choosing fabrics is a really interesting process, at the start of each collection I meet with textile agents around the country and overseas and go from there. I generally use a lot of natural fibres like silks and cottons.
You use a lot of blacks and greys in your pieces, is this your brand’s signature style or is it more to do with seasonal trends?
I don’t make a point of following trends, the darker colour palette was used because it fitted with the story ‘Warrior Princess’.
What’s next for FADDOUL?
I’m really looking forward to watching the business grow and develop to the next stage by building a really strong presence in boutiques I love across Australia.
