This season, the slipper shoe has emerged as the comfort-meets-style footwear of choice, and thankfully not in the hoodie/trackpant/ugg combo you’ve no doubt seen at your local mall/Maccas/supermarket.
Drawing instead on the pyjama-style look of wideleg pants, luxe printed fabrics, and draped kimono jackets, boudoir dressing is back in a big way and requires a refreshingly opulent, yet polished approach.

A complete sleepwear-as-streetwear look is tricky to pull off and probably best reserved for the most confident fashionistas, but it’s easy to take the super-wearable element of the slipper shoe and get your Hugh Hefner style on! It works best in a lush velvet or suede, in rich jewel tones or a quirky print.

Team with cropped (just above the ankle) tailored pants and a buttoned-up silk shirt for a sleek play on the boy-meets-girl look; or try with a ladylike full skirt and bold coat.

You don’t have to drop a small fortune to try out this trend – I found an amazing black velvet pair at…drumroll please…Target, with a whopping price tag of $20!
The great thing about this style is that while it’s an Autumn/Winter look, it’s definitely wearable right now – I plan to wear printed summer skirts and a sleeveless blouse with my slipper shoes, and the cropped pants/shirt look when the weather cools a little.

Dotti have their Hugh Slipper Shoe available online for $49.95; while the fashion treasure trove that is Asos have a huge selection in everything from florals to sequins starting at $25.95. Styletread stock Diavolina’s Wille Slipper ($119.95) in 8 different colours, and also have a selection of cool prints like Windsor Smith’s Diana in Ocelot ($129.95) and Therapy’s Pierrepont in gold and silver glitter – a bargain at $39.95!
These do look much classier than the ugg boot, but I am not sure I could pull this look off.
Give me a fashion uggie anyday really but this is a great post.
