Melbourne-based Roopa Pemmaraju is an Indian born designer who has built her label on unique prints, unrestrained structures and high quality fabrics.
RAFW 2010 was the landscape for the launch of her label to Australian audiences. Each Roopa Pemmaraju piece is hand beaded and manufactured using exquisite, locally sourced fabrics at Roopa’s studio in Bangalore, India.
One important point to note is that Roopa Pemmaraju is a Fair Trade company.
That gives you a little bit of an insight into the Roopa Pemmaraju label, now lets talk about the SS2011 RAFW Collection.
The Collection is titled Royal Edition and it depicts the road to luxury.
Royal Edition is inspired by the keepers of the Realm, it is an ostentatious collection that will allow you to discover the resplendent beauty of a bygone era.
The Nizams reigned over the Hyderabad state of India and they were patrons of literature, art, culture, jewellery and architecture – all of the things that speak to us of great beauty. Their summer fashions are interpreted in heavily embellished, free-flowing resortwear.
Royal Edition projects the mood of royal excess with its references to the pastel hues of the Old Master paintings and the textures and prints taken from the rich engraving and Byzantine architecture lining the City of Pearls.
The decadence of 18th Century India is reflected in the hand beaded precious stones, crochet detailing, rich silk blends and gold and silver foil embellishments.
Royal Edition celebrates the life that was resplendent, respected and royal… The Nizams.
June 2011 will see Royal Edition available at www.roopapemmaraju.com and stockist details can also be found on the website.
